How to Clean Window Treatments

Consult the care instructions on the window treatment’s label. Some fabrics must be dry-cleaned professionally. Do not machine wash or dry treatments that are specified as dry-clean only or you may damage the fabric.

Dust Removal

Remove dust by gently vacuuming the fabric or blinds using the brush attachment on the lowest suction setting.

Clean plastic and vinyl blinds with an all-purpose cleaner. Spray the cleaner on a clean cloth or sponge then wipe each slat individually.

Clean wood blinds with a wood surface cleaner and wipe each slat. Avoid allowing the wood blinds to get too wet, as they may warp.

Stain Removal

Remove stains from fabric blinds by blotting stains with a damp sponge and mild dishwashing liquid.

Washing and Drying

Clean washable fabric in a bathtub with cool water and mild dishwashing soap. Allow the shades to soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse fabric and hang to dry.

If using the washing machine, use the gentle cycle and a mild laundry soap.

If using the dryer, dry on cool or low heat and remove when they are slightly damp to avoid shrinking or hang to dry.
